Permanent Collections

The mission of the New Castle Historical Society is to collect, preserve and communicate the history of New Castle. The collections consist of, but are not limited to: books and manuscripts, photographs, maps, personal memorabilia, furnishings, textiles and costumes, farm and household implements, and works of art. The society may acquire artifacts by gift, discovery or purchase.

The Society welcomes the donations of appropriate items. Parties interested in making a donation please call the Historical Society or email us.

Research

The New Castle Historical Society’s research facilities are open to the public by appointment.

To schedule a visit, please email us at least a week in advance.

All Library users must follow established procedures for the preservation and security of materials.

Research Materials Available:

  • Maps
  • Roads and residences
  • Files on community and religious organizations
  • Town of New Castle records
  • Family files
  • Historic and recent cemetery records
  • School records and yearbooks
  • Greeley Family records and history

Reproduction and Publication

Photocopies of materials may be made, for a fee, in accordance with the rules and regulations of United States copyright law. Photocopies will be made by staff and can be mailed to the researcher after receipt of payment.

Not all materials may be photocopied, for reasons such as condition, age, or rarity. Requests for photo duplication will be considered when such duplication can be performed without injury to the document.

Permission to examine materials is not authorization to publish, display, reproduce, perform, distribute, or prepare derivative works of them. The Society will ordinarily grant publication rights for scholarly and other purposes permissible under United States copyright law.
